A Message of Transformation at Arthur Findlay College

Recently, I attended the Annual Open Event at Arthur Findlay College, a world-renowned centre for the study of mediumship, spiritual healing, and personal development.

Set within the beautiful grounds of Stansted Hall in Essex, the college attracts visitors from around the world who are interested in exploring spiritualism, consciousness, healing, and self-discovery. The Annual Open Event offers the public an opportunity to experience demonstrations, workshops, healing sessions, and talks delivered by experienced mediums and tutors.

It was during one of these healing sessions that I witnessed an experience that left a lasting impression on me.

The healer began by explaining his approach. He described entering a deep altered state of consciousness, allowing a spiritual guide named Michael to work through him. According to his understanding, the body's energetic system and physical wellbeing are closely connected. When energy becomes out of balance, he believes it can eventually affect the physical body.

He explained that the healing process focuses first on balancing the energy system before addressing any physical concerns. Once the session began, the participant was invited simply to relax and allow the experience to unfold.

Then came the message.

A calm and reassuring voice communicated:

"Everything is in place for transformation. You only have to realise that it is your human thoughts that need to change."

The message continued:

"Start to learn to love yourself. How do you love yourself? First, start to like yourself. Then grow from liking yourself into loving all of yourself exactly as you are today. You are perfect at being who you are today."

The words carried a powerful reminder that transformation does not begin with changing who we are—it begins with accepting who we are.

"Just start to like and love that amazing person that you are today. Then the transformation will start to unfold. Everything is already in your hands."

As the healing progressed, the participant described experiencing vivid sensations. They reported seeing deep violet colours and what felt like a bright white light surrounding them. At times, they felt pressure in their chest and heart area, along with a sensation of blockage in their throat. The experience appeared both emotional and deeply personal.

When the session ended, I reflected on the message that had been shared.

I realised that much of my personal growth journey has been centred around learning to love myself as I am right now, rather than waiting until I become some future version of myself. The words about transformation resonated deeply because they highlighted how often our own thoughts become obstacles to our growth.

The healer shared that he had faced similar challenges in his own life.

"There were parts of myself that I loved," he explained, "but there were other parts that I didn't fully accept. I had to learn to love all of me."

Before the session concluded, he shared one final impression with the participant.

"I feel very excited about you," he said. "I feel that something significant is unfolding for you."

For the participant, that simple statement seemed to feel like confirmation that they were moving in the right direction.

As I left the session, I felt that perhaps this was the reason I had attended the event in the first place—not necessarily for healing, but for a reminder.

The Lesson

Whether you view experiences like this through a spiritual, psychological, or personal development lens, the message is universal:

Transformation begins with self-acceptance.

Many of us spend years believing we must become someone different before we deserve love, happiness, or success. Yet this experience suggested the opposite. Real change begins when we stop fighting who we are and start appreciating ourselves as we are today.

Only then can genuine transformation unfold.

And perhaps the greatest healing of all is not becoming someone new, but finally recognising the value of the person we have been all along.

After the session, the participant later shared that she began noticing interesting things happening in her life, almost as if there was guidance from above. She found herself becoming aware of changes she had previously been reluctant to address, while also seeming to be placed in the right situations at the right time. New encounters, meaningful conversations, and unexpected experiences appeared to help her move forward, often bringing her into contact with the right people or circumstances just when she needed them most.
