1. Qi Deficiency Type




Characteristics: Individuals with Qi deficiency often experience fatigue, shortness of breath, and a pale complexion. They may feel weak and have a low immune response.

Health Patterns: Susceptible to colds, fatigue, and digestive issues.


Prevention and Diet:

  • Prevention: Prioritise rest, manage stress, and engage in gentle exercises like Tai Chi or Qi Gong.

  • Diet: Focus on warm, cooked foods such as soups and stews. Include foods like chicken, oats, and sweet potatoes. Avoid raw and cold foods.


Practical Advice:

  • Do: Practice deep breathing exercises to boost energy.

  • Don't: Overexert yourself physically or mentally.



2. Yang Deficiency Type



Characteristics: People with Yang deficiency often feel cold, have cold extremities, and may experience water retention.

Health Patterns: Prone to cold-related issues, digestive problems, and low libido.


Prevention and Diet:


  • Prevention: Keep warm, especially in colder climates. Use warming therapies like moxibustion.

  • Diet: Consume warming foods such as lamb, ginger, and cinnamon. Limit intake of cold and raw foods.


Practical Advice:


  • Do: Dress warmly and use heat packs on the lower back.

  • Don't: Consume icy drinks or foods.


3. Yin Deficiency Type


Characteristics: This type often experiences dry skin, thirst, and hot flashes. They may have a red tongue with little coating.

Health Patterns: Susceptible to insomnia, dry cough, and irritability.

  • Prevention: Stay hydrated and practice relaxation techniques like meditation.


  • Diet: Eat cooling and moistening foods such as pears, tofu, and cucumbers. Avoid spicy and fried foods.

  • Don't: Expose yourself to excessive heat.




4. Blood Deficiency Type


Characteristics: Individuals with blood deficiency may have pale skin, dizziness, and dry hair.


Health Patterns: Prone to anemia, anxiety, and menstrual irregularities.


Prevention and Diet:


  • Prevention: Ensure adequate sleep and manage stress.

  • Diet: Include iron-rich foods like spinach, red meat, and dates. Avoid excessive caffeine.

Practical Advice:

  • Do: Practice mindfulness and relaxation to reduce stress.

  • Don't: Skip meals or engage in extreme dieting.


5. Phlegm-Dampness Type


Characteristics: This type is characterized by a heavy sensation in the body, sluggishness, and a tendency to gain weight easily.


Health Patterns: Susceptible to obesity, fatigue, and respiratory issues.


Prevention and Diet:


  • Prevention: Stay active and avoid damp environments.

  • Diet: Focus on light, easy-to-digest foods like barley, celery, and green tea. Avoid dairy and greasy foods.

  • Do: Engage in regular physical activity.

  • Don't: Consume excessive sugar or processed foods.
